IPU Red Western 49X, a feature bull in our 2011 Bull Sale was the subject of a spirited bidding battle eventually won at $26,000 by McMillen Ranching Ltd and Ashworth Farm and Ranch.
Red Western was always one of our favourites in the 2011 calf crop, therefore we kept a semen interest for in-herd use. When searching for the pedigree and quality we wanted, plus good calving ease numbers for our heifer pen, Red Western was an obvious choice. Positive reports from McMillen Ranch and Kelly Ashworth on the calving ease and quality of Red Western calves helped solidify our decision to use him in our own breeding program in 2012.
His first calves in our program have impressed us and we have continued to use him. In our 2014 Bull Sale Red Western 49X sons were well accepted selling up to a top of $10,000.
In November 2012, the first IPU Red Western 49X calf to be shown won Bull Calf Champion and Grand Champion Simmental Bull at Manitoba Livestock Expo in Brandon, MB.
In the large and competitive 2012 Simmental Show at Brandon, this son of Red Western with his two-year-old dam also won the Grand Champion Female award and the pair went on to be named Supreme Champion Female over all breeds.
Congratulations to Ashworth Farm and Ranch and Flying F Ranch on exhibiting this pair of champions.
At the Ashworth Farm and Ranch Bull Sale this son of Red Western, now known as KWA FLYF Red Mountain 16Z, sold for $75,000 to Tessier Simmentals, Gladmar, SK. We were able to purchase Red Mountain 16Z semen and used him in our heifer pen.
